# Tips on purging an overflowing CD collection?

I have a lot of CDs, like….a lot. If I had to place a guess as to how many grace the shelves of my old bedroom in my parents’ house, I’d probably say that it’s somewhere between 500 and 1,000, probably closer to the latter. While I somewhat bemoan the digitization of music as a whole and am still one to appreciate the physical product (hence my love of vinyl records), the truth of the matter is that once music makes the digital leap from a CD to my hard drive, I have no need for shiny plastic disc.

As a result, I have stacks and stacks of jewel cases sitting at home, collecting dust and taking up space. So, to make a long story, short, I want to get rid of them. Gone. Away. Purged.

So my question is this: has anyone else ever done this before? I could always use some extra dough to use towards rent, but wouldn’t be able to even venture a guess as to how much they’re worth. Try as I might, I can’t convince myself that they’re worth what they once were.

Sell them on eBay as a lot and donate some of the proceeds to charity? ? Craigslist? Comments welcome.
