100,000 people start dialysis in the United States every year. For many it’s a lifeline, but we have one of the highest mortality rate for dialysis care in the industrialized world. One in four patients will die within 12 months of starting treatment. Many clinics are unsanitary and medical supervision is minimal. Tomorrow, investigative journalist Robin Fields. Her story on the $20 billion dollar industry in the U.S. will be published in a joint venture between ProPublica and The Atlantic tomorrow.
