I’ve often wondered what it’d be like to have a crowd-sourced jukebox playlist for an office stereo system.

Say you work in a office with a shared stereo system that plays music for employees to enjoy throughout the workday. People normally make their own mixtapes, play CDs, plug in their iPods, etc, but what if there was a way for the public to remotely input their own choices into that system from their own computers?

On a smaller scale, what if anyone with a web connection could control what was playing on your computer, using a defined music source (the Spotify or Rdio catalogues, for example, or the computer’s iTunes library)?

I think it’d be a cool social experiment. To start with, I would set aside 1 hour of music listening every day to public sourcing. I’m sure there would be people trying to get me to listen to Rick Astley for an hour straight, but with the right queueing system, it could also be a cool way to get introduced to new music.

It could also be an interesting marketing idea (“Help control what the folks at Company X are listening to!”).

Is there anything out there right now that allows this to happen?

**EDIT: So I suppose I could set up a Soundcloud account, and just have people submit music that way. Doesn’t seem very elegant or efficient though. I guess the best way to ideally do it would be to have people choose music from a pre-determined catalog of music, like an existing iTunes library, or the Rdio catalog, for example.**

**That way, you wouldn’t have to worry about uploading/downloading, and it’d just be like someone having remote access to my computer and choosing what to play next.**
